Yunnan Zhaotong National Indoor Fire Behavior Training Base

The Zhaotong facility is officially designated by China's National Fire and Rescue Administration as a National Indoor Fire Behavior Training Base as well as a National Water Rescue Training Base.

The base's CFBT facility occupies approximately 5,000 m² and is divided into experimental, practical training, teaching/research and management areas. Local government sources describe it as a major indoor fire-behavior training installation capable of supporting 51 training subjects.

Sanming is already being used for international firefighter development.

In August 2026, officials and frontline firefighters from Kenya trained at Sanming in fire behavior, earthquake rescue, water rescue and rope rescue. The fire component included indoor fire-behavior theory and practical fire experiments.

Sanming has also hosted international firefighting competition and technical-exchange activities. The 2025 Sanming fireground survival challenge included teams from the United States, Germany, France and multiple Chinese regions, using realistic fire simulation and practical challenge environments.
